Lozova Forging-Mechanical Plant (LKMZ)

Lozova Forging-Mechanical Plant (LKMZ) is the largest press forging enterprise in Ukraine and the CIS. It is a part of the UPEC Industrial Group.

The plant covers an area of 111 ha and employs about 2000 people.

history

Lozova Forging-Mechanical Plant was founded in 1966 to provide agricultural engineering enterprises in Kharkov region with hot-forged workpieces. The location of facilities was determined by the major railway junction and proximity to the steel plants in the Eastern Ukraine.

The modern image of the plant has been forming mainly in the mid-1970s – the first half of the 1980s. Thus, in early 1974 the first fully mechanized line for crankshafts forging was put into operation, the same year the energy-repair shop was created. The press shop was commissioned in 1979, and a year later – the carriages shop. In 1982 there were created the machine assembly shop and the consumer goods shop.

Since 2002 LKMZ is a part of the UPEC Industrial Group and has been actively developing new, marketable activities, constantly expanding range of products. Since 2011 it has become Private Joint Stock Company “Lozova Forging-Mechanical Plant”.

As the city-forming enterprise LKMZ actively takes part in solving social problems in Lozovaya city, Kharkov region.

In 2016 the plant celebrated its 50th anniversary. This is a significant event not only for Lozovaya city, but also for the history of industrial development of the Kharkov region and Ukraine.

specialization

LKMZ is the leading manufacturer of elements of transmissions and chassis for tractors, road-building equipment, axles for buses, parts and units for tractors, components for railway stock, tillage machinery for energy-efficient technologies

LKMZ specializes in a high-volume production of about 300 different forgings with capacity of up to 180 000 tons of forgings per year.

The main customers are tractor, automotive, agricultural engineering and railway enterprises.

technologies and quality

The unique technologies allow to manufacture complex-shaped forgings with a high accuracy and metal consumption coefficient, such as:

— hot extrusion of forgings like hollow journal and flanged hubs;

— forging of crankshafts with further rolling of crank pins;

— cross-wedge rolling of solid and hollow forgings like stepped shafts and gear shafts;

— rolling of ring forgings.

In 2005 the plant was certified according to ISO 9001:2008 and it is preparing for certification according to ISO/TS 16949 standard.

energy efficiency

Over the past years, the priority goal of LKMZ has been the policy of energy efficiency.

Such measures as insulation of buildings, replacement of lighting with more effective ones, automatic accounting of energy resources consumption are carried out. Energy saving is also achieved through the modernization of production.

The reconstruction of the heat supply system is also underway. Smooth-start systems for electric motors of technological equipment with capacity of more than 30 kW are introduced and the work of circulating systems is optimized. In addition, part of equipment is planned to be transferred from gas-flame heating of workpieces to electric induction heating, there are used energy efficient gas furnaces of the latest generation.

integrated automation system

In 2008-2010 LKMZ as all enterprises of the UPEC Industrial Group has implemented an integrated automation system intended for automation of all design and technological activities, based on a software platform (KSA).

The KSA project was realized on the basis of integrated CAD/CAM/CAE/PLM systems and Pro/ENGINEER—Windchill software (PTC, USA). There was also implemented the unique complex for production preparation on the basis of Windchill MPMLink and VERTICAL (ASKON, Russia).

The main advantages of the system are: improved precision and quality of products, as all the works are done in the unified environment – from a 3D-model to manufacturing technology; reduction of terms of technological processes; more effective preparation of the design and technological documentation; significant reduction of cost for production preparation in general.

development and improvement of products

Ukrainian Transmission and Chassis Design Bureau (UKBTSh), which is a part of the UPEC Industrial Group, develops designs of new agricultural equipment and elements of transmission and chassis. It provides design support of serial production at LKMZ, modernization and expansion of the product range.

Agricultural industry. Launching into manufacture the full range of tillage equipment for optimal agriculture in order to fulfill demands of farmers:

— working on the full range of high-speed compact disc harrows with working width from 2,5 to 16 m;

— development of the range of seed drills;

— expansion of the product range to cover the majority of agricultural operations.
UKBTSh works in close cooperation with customers and industrial research and scientific institutions – the Kharkov National Agrarian University named after V.V. Dokuchaev and the Ukrainian Research Institute of Forecasting and Testing of Equipment and Technologies named after L. Pogorelyi.

Automotive industry. Launching into manufacture the new generation of axles for construction machinery, expansion of the product range to enter new markets of the automotive industry.
